Larry Marc-Aurele - I am a percussionist with over 30 years experience in commercials, band work, recording, dance accompaniment, etc. My set-up consists of 3 congas, large cowbell and hi-hat for left foot, jam block and medium-size cowbell for right foot, afuche and guiro for left hand, played with a scraper, and small cowbell and agogo bells for right hand, played with a stick. I currently use this set-up in 2 working acoustic jazz quartets as the first-call, only percussionist (no drummer).
One of my specialties is keeping time and clave with my feet while playing a wide variety of rhythms and variations on the congas, as well as the other instruments as needed. Another specialty is playing the 6/8 bell pattern with my left foot while playing a 'partial' clave patten with my right foot, while keeping a nice 6/8 groove going on the 3 congas. Playing 2-4 rhythms simultaneously with great accuracy is no problem. Can sing while playing as well, with an excellent background voice. Always open to new opportunities. We would be a self funding group (sorry we wont be able to pay anyone) hoping to make money out of ticket sales but there will need to be a small contribution (yet to be finalised) to cover the hire of music and rehearsal space.
